Inaugural Event in 2025
In-person Events at Scientific Conferences
While in Amsterdam, the Alliance held two pivotal meetings at ERS, around fulfilling ICRA’s mission to drive global collaboration, conduct research, and advance education and advocacy in the cardiopulmonary field.
The first session was held with our panel of Committee Members, while the second brought together an array of experts from academia, industry and research organisations. These sessions shared year-to-date highlights and covered research priorities for the coming year and how we intend to work together to achieve these.
In May 2026, ICRA co-chair Professor Gale delivered an invited talk, entitled: "Smoking a shared risk factor: targeting the lungs for preventing heart failure" during the European Society of Cardiology Heart Failure Association Congress in Barcelona.
Research fellow Tobin Joseph presented the results of ICRA’s systematic review and meta-analysis on COPD and the risk of incident cardiovascular disease and death at the 2026 European Cardiology Society (ESC) congress in Munich in August.
Also in Munich, Professor Gale provided a talk to ESC members on COPD and the cardiopulmonary continuum, discussing why a respiratory diagnosis should be followed up with cardiovascular action.
In September, co-chair Professor Mohit Bhutani, pictured here with fellow co-chair Chris Gale and committee member Felicia Montero, showcased the results of ICRA’s modified Delphi study developing data standards for multi-morbidity in COPD during his presentation at the 2026 European Respiratory Society congress in Barcelona.
Upcoming Committee Events
ICRA are due to host an in-person committee meeting for the Alliance during the European Respiratory Society (ERS) conference being held in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, on Saturday, the 27th of September.
