Professor Yongchang Sun is Chairman of the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Peking University Third Hospital,and Director of the Research Center for Chronic Airway Diseases, Peking University Health Science Center in Beijing. He studied medicine in Shandong Medical College and later earned a Master’s degree in immunology from Capital Medical University, a Doctor’s degree in Internal Medicine from Peking Union Medical College after which he specialized in respiratory medicine. He studied severe asthma at National Jewish Health in Denver from 2000-2011.  

Professor Sun has undertaken clinical and laboratory research into asthma and COPD for many years. Recently his research has focused on COPD phenotypes and comorbidities such as cardiovascular diseases, musculoskeletal diseases and tuberculosis-associated COPD, and published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers in journals including Thorax, J Allergy Clin Immunol, Allergy, and Am J Respir Cell Mol Biol. He has served as Deputy Editor of Chinese Medical Journal since 2014, and as Vice President of Chinese Thoracic Society since 2025.
